Vuelta 2025: Philipsen wins in Zaragoza, Træen retains red jersey

Race report
José Luis Faura, Joan Bou and Sergio Samitier atack from the flag. The three open up a 4-minute lead.

At the passage of the finish line, with 23 kilometres to go, only Bou and Samitier remain at the front. The peloton is half a minute behind.

The two are reeled in well before the finish, and then it’s up to the fast men. The 36-year-old Elia Viviani goes far, but he is narrowly beaten by Jasper Philipsen. In the end it doesn’t matter, as the Italian is relegated for irregular sprinting.

The GC remains unchanged, so Torstein Træen keeps the red jersey.
