Giro 2026: Riders and teams
fotobureau Cor VosIn the 109th edition of the Giro d’Italia, Jonas Vingegaard emerged as the overall winner and also claimed five stage victories. Felix Gall and Jai Hindley finished second and third respectively, while Adam Yates had been considered one of the pre-race favourites but was forced to abandon the race during the opening weekend.

Winners and records
The Giro d’Italia began in 1909 in a bid to increase sales for La Gazzetta dello Sport. Italian riders dominated the early decades of the race but that changed from the 60's onward. Cyclingstage.com presents the recent winners and record holders from Italy's grand tour.

Withdrawals
On 8 May, the Giro d’Italia got underway in Bulgaria with 184 riders on the start list, and 33 of them did not reach the finish in Rome. Among those who abandoned the race were Jay Vine, Marc Soler, Santiago Buitrago, Adam Yates, Wilco Kelderman, Kaden Groves and three-time stage winner Jhonatan Narváez.
