The distribution of mountain points in the Giro d’Italia is straightforward. The highest climb on the route, the Cima Coppi, offers the largest haul of points, followed by summit finishes on 1st-category climbs. Being first over a 1st-category climb remains highly rewarding, while the points awarded for other summits gradually decrease in value.

The Cima Coppi is awarded on the highest point in the entire route.
