Giro 2026: Favourites
fotobureau Cor VosVuelta winner Jonas Vingegaard is the clear favourite to win the Giro, with the likes of Thymen Arensman, Giulio Pellizzari, Enric Mas, Egan Bernal and Felix Gall fighting for the remaining podium places. In the sprints, Dylan Groenewegen and Tobias Lund Andresen take on Jonathan Milan. Giulio Ciccone is the standout stage hunter, but there are plenty of others.

All to play for on final climb
Stage 9 of the Giro revolves around three climbs in the final 30 kilometres. The roads are flat until then, after which the route rises almost continuously, mostly at gentle gradients, before the last 3 kilometres ramp up to an average of 10.1%.

Ganna for glory
The Giro’s individual time trial is 100% tailored to pure time-trial specialists. The course is 42 kilometres long and features only 50 metres of elevation gain. Bike handling skills are far from a major factor, as there are very few corners.

Breakaway hopefuls in hilly finale
Stage 11 of the Giro is an interesting one. The riders tackle 2,850 metres of climbing, almost all of which comes in the final 100 kilometres.

Stage 12 sees the Giro organisers stick to a tried-and-tested formula. In a nailed-on sprint stage, they throw in one or two climbs and then wait to see whether it actually comes down to a bunch sprint. What will it be this time?

Intriguing finale for attackers
Stage 8 of the Giro d’Italia is a race with two faces. Flat in the first part, with climbs in the second. The finale takes place on the steep cobbled streets of Fermo’s historic city centre.
