Race report
Early on the first climb, the Port del Cantó, Juan Ayuso launches an attack. For kilometres he maintains a slender lead, and shortly after the summit he is joined by Jay Vine, Mads Pedersen, Sean Quinn, Damien Howson, Harold Tejada, Brieuc Rolland, Joel Nicolau, Raúl García Pierna, Marco Frigo, Kevin Vermaerke and Eduardo Sepúlveda. They build a maximum lead of over 4 minutes.

Vine extends his lead in the KOM classification at the Puerto de Creu de Perves and Coll de L’Espina.

The breakaway hits the final climb 3 minutes ahead of the peloton. Ayuso does not dilly-dally and heads out shortly after.

While the Spaniard solos to victory, João Almeida, Jonas Vingegaard, Giulio Ciccone and Egan Bernal prove themselves as the strongest GC contenders further down the mountain. The other riders, with red jersey, Torstein Træen, regain contact as the dust settles.
