Race report
Around 20 kilometres into the race, Antonio Tiberi breaks away with Brandon Smith Rivera, Madis Mikhels, Harold Tejada, Patrick Gamper, Timo Roosen, Jonas Gregaard and Luca Van Boven before Joel Nicolau, Gijs Leemreize, Léandre Lozouet and Sergio Saminier join to make it a dozen out front.

The gap drops below inside the last 30 kilometres, which inspires Tiberi and Tejada to break away on the rising sections leading towards the final climb. Leemreize and Samitier manage to rejoin them, but the attackers crack before the actual climb.

With 7 kilometres to go, the lead group consists of Jonas Vingegaard, João Almeida, Tom Pidcock, Jai Hindley, Giulio Pellizzari, Felix Gall, Matthew Riccitello, Sepp Kuss, Matteo Jorgenson and Ben Tulett.

Nearly 1 kilometre later, Hindley surges away, with Vingegaard, Pidcock and Riccitello quick to respond. Almeida and Pellizzari claw back over an 800-metre effort.

Pellizzari strikes with 3.5 kilometres left to climb. He goes clear by half a minute before Riccitello, his rival in the young rider classification, responds. It’s too little too late, in particular because he isn’t getting any support from the others.

Pellizzari doesn’t look up and solos to the best win in his career before Pidcock powers to second place, with Hindley finishing third. In this way, the top five riders in the Vuelta draw closer together, although red jersey holder Vingegaard still manages to gain 2 seconds on his closest rival, Almeida.
