Race report
Barely out of the neutral zone, Victor Guernalec and Jakub Otruba seize the initiative and launch an early attack. The two open up a 3-minute lead before the peloton takes control. While Otruba keeps up a strong pace, Guernalec loses contact after about 20 kilometres.

Riding solo, Otruba builds up a 4-minute lead, but by the intermediate sprint in Salamanca the gap has dropped to just 1 minute. Jonas Vingegaard picks up the remaining 4 bonus seconds.

Not long after passing through Salamanca, Otruba’s adventure comes to an end. Sergio Geovani Chumil and Mario Aparicio then spend some time off the front, but the peloton swallows up the two teammates well before the finish.

On the gently rising approach to Guijuelo, the lead-out for Jasper Philipsen is executed to perfection. In the final few hundred metres, he is launched and the Belgian sprints to his third stage win of this Vuelta.

Thanks to the bonus seconds he picks up along the way, red jersey Jonas Vingegaard slightly extends his overall lead, while the rest of the GC remains unchanged.
