Vuelta 2025 Favourites stage 9: Hilly stage with long final climb

Marc Soler - Vuelta 2025 Favourites stage 9: Hilly stage with demanding final climbfoto: Cor VosWill it be a day for the attackers, or are the GC contenders set to prevail? Stage 9 is the kind of race that could go either way. After a hilly approach, the road climbs at 5% over the final 13.3 kilometres. (Slideshow route/profile)

Over the first 9.6 kilometres, the final climb averages 6.4%, easing off considerably after that. Which seems to favour a breakaway. GC riders would need a tougher finale to put time into their rivals.

The route is rarely flat, but the climbs between Alfaro and the Valdezcaray ski area are never steep enough for the organisers to classify them. Except for the ascent to the line, which is a 1st-category climb.
