Vuelta 2025 Favourites stage 5: The pinnacle of teamwork

Over 24.1 kilometres, there are just 100 metres of elevation gain, and the route is far from technical. And that’s music to the ears of TTT connoisseurs. The more straightforward a team time trial course is, the better. It allows teams to execute the fine art of rotating with full precision.

The last team time trial on the calendar took place in Paris–Nice last March. It didn’t follow the standard format, as riders started together but their finishing times were counted individually. Visma | Lease a Bike took the spoils, with Matteo Jorgenson and Jonas Vingegaard crossing the line side by side. Both lead the team in this year’s Vuelta.

In general, the black-and-yellow squad has proven itself to be outstanding in the discipline in recent years. UAE Team Emirates has been more inconsistent, but with Mikkel Bjerg, Juan Ayuso, Jay Vine and João Almeida, they’re fielding a formidable group of time trialists.
