Vuelta 2025 Favourites stage 21: For Fast Finishers #5
fotobureau Cor VosIn Madrid, it’s as good as certain that the fast men will have their say. The 111.6-kilometre route is virtually flat.
Then again, two years ago we did get a thrilling finale on the Madrid city circuit, when a stellar breakaway went up the road in the Spansh capital. Evenepoel, Ganna, Groves, Denz, Kämna and Costa spent kilometres off the front and looked set to be caught inside the last 600 metres. Evenepoel thought otherwise and kicked again. The rest followed and Groves took the sprint ahead of Ganna and Denz, while Page came in first from the bunch.
Normally, though, a straightforward bunch sprint is the expected outcome in Madrid. In recent years, Molano (2022), Jakobsen (2019), Viviani (2018), Trentin (2017), Cort (2016), Degenkolb (2015, 2012), Matthews (2013) and Sagan (2011) have all triumphed in that way.
