Vuelta 2025 Favourites stage 3: For fast men #2

Mads pedersen - Vuelta 2025 Favourites stage 3: For fast men #2foto: Cor VosJust under 2,000 metres of elevation over a 134.6-kilometre route may not appeal to the pure sprinters, but more resilient fast men like Mads Pedersen will be eager to get going. (Slideshow route/profile)

The rolling route features three steeper sections, one of which the organisers deem tough enough to warrant a KOM classification: the Puerto Issiglio, a 6.4-kilometre climb at 6%, peaking at kilometre 65.8. The other uphill stretches rise for 2.6 kilometres at 5.3% and 1.8 kilometres at 5.7%, respectively.

The latter is in the village of Corio, which the peloton passes with 27.5 kilometres left to race. From there, it’s downhill before a long false flat towards the line. The final 2.6 kilometres rise at an average gradient of 3.4%, with the steepest section coming after the flamme rouge.

Pure sprinters won’t be thrilled with a route like this, but tougher types – the likes of Mads Pedersen – will be licking their lips.
