Tadej Pogacar tdf - Tour de France 2025: Pogacar powers into yellow in Hautacamfoto: Cor VosThe final climb to Hautacam has barely begun when Tadej Pogacar strikes. He breaks away immediately, though Jonas Vingegaard keeps him in sight for a while. It’s merely a delay of the inevitable, as the world champion eventually pulls away by more than a minute. Race report
A sizeable breakaway forms 15 kilometres into the stage, with no fewer than 51 riders involved. Among them are Carlos Rodríguez, Lenny Martinez, Ben O’Connor, Michael Storer, Thymen Arensman, Mattias Skjelmose, Aleksandr Vlasov, Einer Rubio, Pablo Castrillo, Harold Tejada, Mathieu van der Poel, Michael Woods, Tiesj Benoot, Tim Wellens, Emanuel Buchmann, Aurélien Paret-Peintre, Bruno Armirail, and Santiago Buitrago.

The front group stretches their advantage to a maximum of 2 minutes. That gap still holds at the Col du Soulor, as Remco Evenepoel loses contact in the GC group. Yellow jersey Ben Healy also drops back.

In the final 2 kilometres of the climb, the lead group has been whittled down to Woods, Rubio, Skjelmose, Armirail and Storer. The Canadian accelerates and reaches the summit 5 seconds ahead of Skjelmose with the other three 10 seconds further behind.

On the descent, Armirail takes over the lead from Woods. He builds up a 1-minute advantage over the chasers om the Col des Bordères, while Evenepoel rejoins the Pogacar–Vingegaard group on the descent.

With 19 kilometres remaining, only one attacker is left out front: Bruno Armirail. The Frenchman starts the final climb two minutes ahead of the GC contenders, but that margin is quickly cut in half as Tadej Pogacar attacks early. No one can follow, though Jonas Vingegaard keeps him within striking distance… at first, but as the world champion continues to push hard, the gap grows to over 2 minutes.

Further down the mountain, it becomes clear that Florian Lipowitz is stronger than Primoz Roglic. He stays with his team leader for a while, but once the young German is given the freedom to ride his own pace, he’s gone. He closes to within 30 seconds of Vingegaard, but ultimately has to settle for third place.

By then, Pogačar had already finished, minutes ahead. The ghost he encountered on Hautacam a few years ago is gone, blinded by a blistering performance and buried beneath a bright yellow jersey.
