withdrawals - Tour de France 2025: Withdrawalsfoto: Cor VosOn 5 July, 184 riders set off from Lille, spread across 23 teams. Filippo Ganna, Jasper Philipsen, João Almeida, Mattias Skjelmose, Remco Evenepoel and Mathieu van der Poel were the most notable DNFs. In total, 24 riders did not reach the finish in Paris.

Early in the opening stage, Filippo Ganna and Stefan Bissegger both hit the tarmac. They got back on their bikes, but neither would make it to the finish. The two time trial specialists thus became the first riders to abandon the 2025 Tour.

Green jersey Jasper Philipsen crashed hard in the run-up to the intermediate sprint and was forced to pull out.

Pogacar’s domestique João Almeida crashed heavily in the 7th stage and was forced to abandon two days later. Remco Evenepoel called it quits during the Tourmalet stage, stage 14.

Mathieu van der Poel didn’t make it to Paris either. The winner of stage 2 had to withdraw after the second rest day due to pneumonia.
