Race report
Jonas Abrahamsen, Mauro Schmid and Davide Ballerini attack from the gun. They open up a maximum lead of 1 minute, but the race never really settles, but the race doesn’t settle until 70 kilometres in. Eventually, Mathieu Burgaudeau and Fred Wright are the only riders who manage to close the gap.

The calm is short-lived. As soon as the gap hits 2 minutes, fresh attacks begin.

Inside the final 70 kilometres, yellow jersey Ben Healy and Jonas Vingegaard slip away from the peloton, forcing Tadej Pogacar and Remco Evenepoel to chase them down. Once they close the gap, Wout van Aert, Quinn Simmons, Mathieu van der Poel, Arnaud De Lie and Axel Laurance launch the next move.

Only then does the peloton finally settle down. While Van der Poel et al. take up the chase of the breakaway, the GC contenders drift 3 minutes behind.

The gap between the breakaway and the chasers has been hovering around 20 seconds when Schmid and Abrahamsen accelerate on the penultimate climb. At the same time, Simmons launches an attack from the chasing group.

Schmid and Abrahamsen crest the final climb together. Van der Poel gives chase lower down the slope and reaches the summit 25 seconds later. The Dutchman dives into the descent and continues to close the gap on the flat run-in, narrowing it to just 10 seconds. Meanwhile, Tadej Pogacar hits the deck in the peloton, but his rivals choose not to press the advantage and wait for him.

Van der Poel can’t close the gap, leaving Schmid and Abrahamsen to sprint for the win. It’s Abrahamsen who takes it, just edging out Schmid to claim the biggest victory of his career.

Healy finishes safely in the peloton and retains the yellow jersey.
