Jonathan Milan attacks as soon as the flag drops. KOM leader Diego Pablo Sevilla, Jardi Christiaan van der Lee en Tim Naberman go with him straight away, while Nickolas Zukowsky joins 2 kilometres later. The quartet opens up a 6-minute gap.

Meanwhile, the gap hovers between 5 and 6 minutes.
