Giro 2026: Dversnes wins four-up sprint, Vingegaard retains lead
fotobureau Cor VosJust like in 2015, when Iljo Keisse took the spoils in Milan, the peloton underestimates the breakaway. Fredrik Dversnes then sprints to victory ahead of Mirco Maestri, Martin Marcellusi and Mattias Bais, while Jonas Vingegaard retains the lead in the general classification.

Race report
The breakaway features Mattia Bais, Mirco Maestri, Martin Marcellusi and Fredrik Dversnes Lavik. The riders open up a maximum lead of 3 minutes.
As the four enter the final lap, the gap has dropped to under 1 minute. In the last 6 kilometres it is halved again, but it then hovers around that margin for quite some time.
As a result, what looked like a guaranteed sprint stage turns into a golden opportunity for the breakaway riders. Bais launches the sprint for his teammate Maestri, but Dversnes takes advantage by powering to victory.
Nothing changes in the GC, so Jonas Vingegaard retains the pink jersey.
