UAE Tour 2025 Route stage 1: Madinat Zayed - Liwa

UAE Tour 2025 Monday, 17 February – The 1st stage of the UAE Tour takes the riders over a 138-kilometre course through the desert. The first 50 kilometres are flat, but the rest of the route features numerous short ramps before the final 500 metres rise at 5.6%.

The riders clip in at Madinat Zayed and head into the desert. At first, the roads are flat, but that changes after the irst passage through Liwa. A series of short ramps take the race towards the Moreeb sand dune. At over 300 metres high, it’s one of the tallest sand dunes in the world.

Of course, the riders don’t reach that height on tarmac, but they do tackle two lumpy laps of an 18.1-kilometre circuit in the area. And there are definitely some tough climbs along the way – some even hitting double-digit gradients.

Moreeb sits 25 kilometres south of the finish. The run-in is dead straight, but the road does rise at around 5%. It's not likely to put the sprinters off, as Tim Merlier took the win last year after a near identical stage.

The first three riders across the line bag 10, 6, and 4 bonus seconds, while the intermediate sprints offer 3, 2, and 1 seconds.
