Critérium du Dauphiné 2025 Route stage 3: Brioude - Charantonnay

Criterium du Dauphine 2025Tuesday, 10 June – The riders tackle a 207.2-kilometre stage featuring nearly 3,000 metres of elevation gain. With 19 kilometres remaining, a short, sharp climb of 1.2 kilometres at 9.2% marks the final serious obstacle, while the last kilometres rise false flat to the line.

Brioude last hosted the Dauphiné four years ago. Back then, the stage finished in Saugues, where Lukas Pöstlberger took a victory from the breakaway. For the finish town Charantonnay, welcoming a pro peloton is a first.

Along the way, the riders tackle five official climbs. Right from the start, the Côte de Cornille rises 4.1 kilometres at 4.8%, followed without any significant descent by the Côte de la Barbate – 5.8 kilometres at 6.9%. The riders reach the top of that second climb after 18 kilometres.

The race stays on high ground for several dozen kilometres before descending to the Loire, crossing the river, and taking on the Côte de Malataverne. This climb measures 5.4 kilometres at 3.9%, with a false flat extension after the sprint for mountain points. The riders remain on high ground again before the Col du Tracol adds 2.9 kilometres at 4.2% to the mix, and then the route descends into the Rhône valley.

Once down, just over 40 kilometres remain. The section begins with a false flat of more than 20 kilometres, before the Côte du Château Jaune throws in 1.2 kilometres at an average gradient of 9.2% towards the sprint for mountain points. The road continues to rise slightly. Once over the top, 17 kilometres remain to the finish, with no significant obstacles along the way.

After the descent, there are 12 kilometres to go to the finish in Charantonnay. Apart from a descending stretch of just under 2 kilometres, it’s a steady false flat all the way to the line.

The first three riders to cross the finish line receive time bonuses of 10, 6, and 4 seconds, while the intermediate sprint offers 3, 2, and 1 second respectively.
