Race report
Davide Bais and Giosuè Epis attack straight from the start. Lorenzo Milesi initially jumps with them, then sits up — only to change his mind and go after them. After a 5-kilometre chase, he makes the junction.

The trio open up a 2-minute lead, but that’s as far as it goes. In the final 40 kilometres, Milesi and Bais continue together.

The climb to Montescaglioso proves too much for a number of sprinters, including Olav Kooij, Kaden Groves and Sam Bennett.

Groves manages to regain contact, while the two attackers are reeled in during the final 14 kilometres. Wout van Aert doesn’t contest the sprint, as he sits up with 4 kilometres to go.

Mathias Vacek tows Mads Pedersen in the final kilometres. The pink jersey struggles on a small climb near the end, but makes it back just in time for the final stretch. He jumps out of Vacek’s slipstream and has just enough left in the tank to hold off a fast-finishing Edoardo Zambanini.
