Vuelta 2023 Favourites stage 10: Evenepoel versus ITT all-stars

Remco Evenepoel put 48 seconds into Primoz Roglic in last year’s Vuelta ITT. It was a virtually flat affair, yet slightly longer, while this year’s route is similar – a 500 metres at 7.1% at kilometre 7, and that’s it in terms of climbing.

Evenepoel also bested of Roglic in the two Giro ITTs he competed last May. In fact, the Slovene did not play a role whatsoever in those stages. Filippo Ganna and João Almeida finished in second and third in the first time trial before Geraint Thomas and Tao Geoghegan Hart rounded out the podium in the flat and long ITT halfway through the Giro.

The last time that Evenepoel was bested by a non-compatriot – a.k.a., Wout van Aert during the national ITT championships -, it was in the Tour de Suisse. Juan Ayuso stormed to victory on a rolling route.
