Vuelta 2023 Favourites stage 3: Attackers in the Pyrenees
fotobureau Cor VosLa Vuelta traverses Catalunya on the third day to finish high up in the Pyrenees. In Andorra, to be precise. The run-up is undulating, the last 50 kilometres are mountainous.

Two big climbs complicate things for the attackers in the final phase of the race. That is, for the non-climbers in the breakaway. The climbers must be looking forward to it. First the Coll d’Ordino, an 8.9 kilometres climb at 5.1%, and then the ascent to the ski area in the mountains above Arinsal. The finish climb is 8.3 kilometres long and averaging 7.7%.
Odds are that the Gc team will let the breakaway enough leash to ride for both the stage win and red jersey. After all, the real GC action is expected in the second and the third week.
