Volta ao Algarve 2025 Route stage 2: Lagoa – Alto da Fóia
In fact, the finish is at the highest point in the Algarve: Fóia. The finishing climb is 7.4 kilometres long with an average gradient of 5.6%, while the last 2.9 kilometres ramp up to 7.5%.
To make things even tougher, just before tackling Fóia, the riders have to take on a 3.8-kilometre ascent to Pomba at 7.4%. The descent that follows is barely worth mentioning, and then before the final climb kicks in. Last year, Daniel Felipe Martínez took the win at the summit, beating Remco Evenepoel.
Before entering the finale, the route is mostly flat to rolling, but there are a few tricky sections. The peloton will hit a 1.1-kilometre climb at 7.5% after 36.6 kilometres, a 4.3-kilometre climb at 5.3% after 90 kilometres, and a 2.3-kilometre climb at 7.4% after 141.5 kilometres. In the run-up to that 4.3-kilometre climb, the road rises twice without categorisation — first for 1.6 kilometres at 5.6%, then for 2.5 kilometres at 6.8%.
