Tour of Valencia 2024 Route stage 1: Benicàssim - Castellón

Tour of Valencia 2024 Wednesday 31 January - At 166 kilometres, the 1st stage of the Tour of Valencia travels from coastal town Benicàssim to Castellón. The riders are to crest three summits, the last of which with 16 kilometres left to race.

The first 20 kilometres take place on the flat before the riders enter the lumpy lion's share of the route. La Bandereta (4.4 kilometres at 6.7%) and the Coll de la Bassa (7.6 kilometres at 2.9%) are the only KOM worthy obstacles in this part of the race.

The riders are back in Benicàssim after 140 kilometres of action. The riders then tackle the Desierto de las Palmas, which is an 8 kilometres long climb with an average gradient of 5.2%. From the highest point the riders fly down the mountain to the last 6 kilometres on the flat.

Biniam Girmay outsprinted Olav Kooij at the end of last year's 1st stage.

The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while the intermediate sprint comes with 3, 2 and 1 seconds.
