Tour de Romandie 2026: Sprint triumph Godon, Pogacar retains lead

Race report

It takes a while, but eventually initiators Damiano Caruso and Josh Kench form the break away with Georg Steinhauser, Lorenzo Germani, Sam Oomen, Rémy Rochas and Steff Cras. The seven ride to a lead of around 2 minutes.

As they hit the Col de Mollendruz, the breakaway still has a buffer of around 2 minutes. On the climb, however, that gap quickly comes down, prompting Damiano Caruso to push on alone. The Italian crests the summit 20 seconds ahead of Cras and Steinhauser, with the peloton at almost 1 minute.

Cras and Steinhauser manage to bridge back to the lone leader with 17 kilometers to go, while the peloton chases at 30 seconds at that point.

With 2.2 kilometres to go, the three breakaway riders are caught, after which Dorian Godon takes control of the sprint. Tadej Pogacar finishes fourth and retains the overall lead
