Tour de France Femmes 2026: Vollering lands stunning double in Nice

Race report
There is plenty of interest in getting into the breakaway. Attacks from Daniek Hengeveld and Lieke Nooijen come to nothing, but Maëva Squiban and Loes Adegeest have more success. They open up a 6-minute lead.

As the riders crest the Côte de Colomars, the gap comes down to 1 minute before Squiban hits the deck in the descent.

Adegeest reaches the Côte de Ginestière 42 seconds ahead of the peloton, but with FDJ driving the pace relentlessly in the bunch, she is reeled in halfway up the climb. The pace proves too much for Lorena Wiebes and the other sprinters as well.

On a short uphill drag 6.2 kilometres from the finish, Demi Vollering blasts clear. Elisa Longo Borghini closes the gap with Kasia Niewiadoma on her wheel, but Vollering keeps pushing and eventually drops them both.

After the descent, Vollering pulls further clear on the dead-straight Promenade des Anglais. She crosses the finish line 17 seconds ahead of the two chasers to take the yellow jersey from Niewiadoma. She leads her by just 8 seconds overall.
