Tour de France Femmes 2026: Niewiadoma conquers Mont Ventoux

Race report
The peloton is still intact at the foot of the first climb, the Col de la Grande Limite, paving the way for Puck Pieterse to take the maximum haul of mountain points at the top.

The bunch stays together until Jeanne Korevaar launches the first attack after 22.5 kilometres. She is joined by Millie Couzens, Lily Williams, Silke Smulders, Gaia Masetti, Ema Comte, Sophie Von Berswordt, Romina Hinojosa and Noémie Abgrall, but their advantage never grows very large, and the peloton catches them before the Col du Colombier.

At the summit of the Colombier, Pieterse once again does polka dot business. The next attack does not materialise until midway through the stage, when Marit Raaijmakers, Ruby Roseman-Gannon, Mia Griffin, Amalie Dideriksen, Idoia Eraso, Paula Patiño, Marte Berg Edseth, Sandrine Tas, Romina Hinojosa and Clémence Latimier join forces. They build a lead of nearly 1 minute, before Fiona Magnan bridges across after a solo chase.

The 11-rider group then widen their lead to 3 minutes, but by the time the riders reach the foot of Mont Ventoux, the gap has vanished. Roseman-Gannon is the last rider to succumb to the peloton.

The peloton is whittled down on the climb before Demi Vollering accelerates with 11 kilometres to go. Only Marlen Reusser and Kasia Niewiadoma are able to follow.

Almost 2 kilometres later, the Polish rider jumps clear. The other two initially look at each other, but Vollering eventually sets off in pursuit. Twice she is on the verge of making contact when she eases off. After the second attempt, the chase stalls, allowing Niewiadoma to build a lead of 1 minute and 45 seconds.

While the 2024 Tour winner solos to victory, Vollering drops Reusser in the final kilometre. She absolutely flies up the mountain, clawing back 30 seconds on Niewiadoma. Meanwhile, Elisa Longo Borghini overhauls the yellow jersey just before the finish line.

Niewiadoma takes the jersey from Reusser. Vollering sits second, 15 seconds behind, while Reusser drops to third at 39 seconds. The stage is set for a thrilling finale in the hills above Nice!
