Race report
The peloton stays together until the Grand Ballon, where a group of 38 riders breaks away, including Thymen Arensman, Antonio Tiberi, Tobias Halland Johannessen, Anders Halland Johannessen, Ben Healy, Egan Bernal, Einer Rubio, Richard Carapaz, Valentin Paret-Peintre, Tom Pidcock and Pablo Castrillo.

Paret-Peintre tops the climb first to claim the maximum mountain points, ahead of Carapaz, Healy and the Johannessen brothers. The five riders continue together, while the peloton reaches the summit 1 minute and a half later.

Rubio, Castrillo and Arensman launch the chase on the Col du Page. While the Dutchman suffers a puncture and sees his chances disappear, Rubio bridges across to the leaders halfway up the climb. Paret-Peintre also takes maximum mountain points at the summit, with the peloton more than 3 minutes behind.

UAE Team Emirates lifts the pace in the peloton on the Ballon d'Alsace. Paret-Peintre once again takes the maximum mountain points, with the peloton cresting the climb nearly 2 minutes later.

Healy loses contact with the other attackers on the Col du Hundsruck, while Anders Halland Johannessen drops back just before the Col du Haag. At the foot of the final climb, the peloton is 1 minute and 15 seconds behind the leaders.

Shortly, Richard Carapaz and Tobias Halland Johannessen go clear together. With 8 kilometres to the summit, the Ecuadorian continues on his own.

A little over 4 kilometres from the summit, Remco Evenepoel and Isaac del Toro lose contact with the favourites' group. That leaves only Jonas Vingegaard, Tadej Pogacar, Florian Lipowitz, Paul Seixas and Juan Ayuso. Further up the climb, Johannessen rejoins Carapaz, and not long afterwards the chasers catch them.

The yellow jersey accelerates as the Col du Haag steepens in the final 1.7 kilometres. He reaches the summit 25 seconds ahead of Vingegaard and Seixas, with Del Toro a few more seconds behind.

On the plateau after the summit, Pogacar doubles his advantage to seal his fourth stage win of this Tour. Behind him, his teammate Del Toro bridges across to Seixas and Vingegaard before sprinting to second place.
