Race report
There is plenty of interest in getting into the breakaway, and it takes more than an hour before the move finally goes. Louis Vervaeke, Magnus Cort, Nelson Oliveira and Mattéo Vercher are the first to break clear, before Luke Plapp, Mauro Schmid, George Bennett and Mads Pedersen bridge across. Nicolas Prodhomme, Harold Tejada, Alex Aranburu, Michael Storer, Joris Delbove, Abel Balderstone, Alex Baudin, Vlad Van Mechelen, Raúl García Pierna, Clément Braz Afonso and Egan Bernal then join the move, swelling the breakaway to 19 riders. The former Tour winner's luck soon runs out, however, as a puncture forces him to drop back.

The breakaway's advantage grows to more than three minutes, but when Florian Vermeersch starts setting the pace for UAE Emirates, the gap is reduced to under 2 minutes.

García Pierna attacks on the Col de Toses and rides clear on his own. Van Mechelen and Vercher set off in pursuit and makes the catch halfway up the climb. Inside the final 2 kilometres, Baudin, Bennett and Prodhomme also make their way back to the front. Baudin crests the summit first, taking the polka-dot jersey from Alex Molenaar.

On the Col du Calvaire, Baudin attacks and Prodhomme bridges across to him. At the summit, the virtual King of the Mountains extends his lead in the mountains classification. By then, the peloton has cut the gap to just 43 seconds.

On the descent, Prodhomme sits up and waits for the main group before the new King of the Mountains is caught with 11 kilometres remaining.

On the final climb, Isaac del Toro delivers a long lead-out for Tadej Pogacar. When the world champion launches his sprint inside the final 200 metres, he immediately opens a gap. He crosses the line 2 seconds ahead of Jonas Vingegaard, which, together with the time bonus, is just enough to take the yellow jersey from the Dane.
