Two-time Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard, Florian Lipowitz and Tim Merlier, who had already won three stages at that point, were the most notable riders to abandon the race. In total, 26 riders did not make it to the finish in Paris.

Clément Berthet was the first rider to abandon the Tour de France. The Frenchman crashed in the opening team time trial after losing control on a manhole cover. Although he finished the stage, he was too badly injured to take the start of stage 2.

Double Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard crashed in stage 15 and was forced to abandon, while Tim Merlier pulled out that day in the high mountains after winning thee sprints stages earlier in de Tour.

Florian Lipowitz, who finished third in 2025, crashed during the stage 16 time trial and was forced to abandon the race. At the time, he was fifth overall.

The 2025 Tour de France saw both Filippo Ganna and Stefan Bissegger crash early in the opening stage, just moments apart. Although they remounted, neither made it to the finish. Other high-profile withdrawals in 2025 included João Almeida, Remco Evenepoel and Mathieu van der Poel.
