Tour de France 2026: Wærenskjold outguns Kooij in Nevers, Pogacar still leader

Race report
The breakaway takes shape after 13 kilometres, with Julian Alaphilippe, Nelson Oliveira, Anthon Charmig and Mathis Le Berre joining forces. The four reach a maximum lead of 1 minute and 30 seconds.

Alaphilippe is dropped from the breakaway on the Côte de Billy-Chévannes, while the peloton reels in the remaining three riders inside the final 6 kilometres.

As Cees Bol leads out Olav Kooij, a gap opens up behind him. Søren Wærenskjold dives right into it and storms through. Jasper Philipsen* and Olav Kooij open up their sprints behind him, but they're too late and the Norwegian claims the stage victory.

The overall standings remain unchanged, with Tadej Pogacar holding a firm grip on the yellow jersey ahead of Jonas Vingegaard and Remco Evenepoel.

* Philipsen is later relegated to 19th place after being judged to have impeded Pavel Bittner in the sprint.
