Tour de France 2025 Favourites stage 6: A punchers’ delight, again

After a race packed with hills, the finish lies atop a short, sharp ramp: 700 metres at 9.3%. (Slideshow route/profile)

The big question is whether the strongest puncher in the breakaway will take the spoils, or if the peloton keeps the attackers on a tight leash to set up a sprint in Vire Normandie. With six categorised climbs and a number of uncategorised hills along the way, it won’t be easy to control the race. Riders with the legs to win on an uphill finish like this would do well to hedge their bets and try to make the break.

From start to finish, stage 6 is a relentless up-and-down affair. The only relatively gentle sections are the first 30 kilometres and the stretch between kilometre 70 and 135. In total, the riders face 3,505 metres of climbing – a proper war of attrition.

As for the stage win, it will all come down to the finale. It kicks off with just under 6 kilometres to go on the Côte de Vaudry: 1.2 kilometres at 7.2%, with pitches of up to 11.2%. After the descent and a brief flat section, the race will be decided on a punchy ramp of 700 metres at 10.2%.
