The only thing that could possibly thwart a bunch sprint? Crosswinds. After all, we’re on the Opal Coast, less than 20 kilometres from Belgium’s De Moeren, a veritable echelon paradise.
The top contenders for the stage win are the same as in the opening stage: Tim Merlier and Jonathan Milan, simply because they’ve won the most sprints this season. But on the opening day, it was Jasper Philipsen who took the spoils, while Milan and Merlier were nowhere to be seen. They were caught out when the peloton shattered in the final 20 kilometers due to crosswinds.
