O Gran Camiño 2024 Route stage 4: Pontearreas – Monte Aloia
[pdate - due to heavy rains the race is shortened; Mont Aloia will be climbeb once instead of twice.]
The Cruceiro do Monte is a perfect way to stretch the legs. The 8 kilometres climb at 4% is crested after 16 kilometres of action and makes way for an undulating phase. Following a downhill back to sea level the riders move through Pontevedra at kilometre 70. The route remains flat untill the Alto de San Cosme - 6.2 kilometres at 5.5% - preludes the finale.
The riders enter the finishing circuit on descent. It's ridden 1.5 times and Monte Aloia makes a double appearance. In the first run it's a 6.6 kilometres climb at 8% and the summit is situated almost 30 kilometres from the finish.
The downhill takes the riders back to the place where they entered the circuit and 10 kilometres on the flat later the Monte Aloia kicks in again, this time as the finish climb. As the route turns right 600 metres before the finish it's just a wee bit longer as the first time. The daunting slopes are just as unforgiving, as Monte Aloia is riddled with double digit ramps.
