O Gran Camiño 2024 Route stage 2: Toboada - Chantana
Friday 23 February - The 2nd stage of O Gran Camiño is an 151.5 kilometres long test with an elevation gain of a little over 3,000 metres. Following a race with four KOMs and a multitude of unclassified hills the finish appears shortly after a 5 kilometres climb at 6.3%.
The route climbs from the start on a hill at shallow gradients, which sets the tone for the first hour. The route goes up and down, although the gradients are never so daunting that a KOM classification is in order.
The riders then reach the base of the Alto de Paradela (4.4 kilometres at 6.2%) and continue on lumpy terrain to the Alto de Sonán (2.4 kilometres at 5.4%). They are back where it all started, in Toboada, with 58 kilometres remaining.
A flat phase of some 10 kilometres preludes a descent to the base of the Alto de San Pedro de Líncora. By now, the riders are well on their way in the finishing circuit, which is tackled 1.5 times, while the aforementioned Alto de San Pedro de Líncora makes a double appearance. The climb kicks in hard with a first kilometre at 8% before the subsequent kilometres throw in 6.9, 4.4, 7.0 and 5.6 gradients.
Following the first passage on the line the route climbs at shallow gradients for 4 kilometres before it goes downhill again, all the way back to the base of the Alto de San Pedro de Líncora. The climb is 5 kilometres long and averages 6.3%. The riders reach the summit with 3 kilometres to go before a 1 kilometres descent leads to the last 2 kilometres on the flat.
