Volta a Catalunya 2025 Route stage 5: Paüls – Amposta

Friday, 28 March – The 5th stage of the Volta a Catalunya is exceptionally flat by Spanish standards. The riders cover 172 kilometres between Paüls and Amposta, with only 1,320 metres of elevation gain. Moreover, most of this elevation occurs early in the stage.

Two years ago, the Volta a Catalunya traversed the Terres de l’Ebre region in southern Catalonia to arrive at a mountain top finish in the Els Ports mountain range, where Primoz Roglic secured a stage win and the overall victory at the expense of Remco Evenepoel. The race now returns to the Terres de l’Ebre, but remains in the lower parts

In fact, there is only one classified climb to be dealt with: the Coll de Font, a 7.3-kilometre ascent averaging 3.4%. The summit lies 142 kilometres from the finish line, and the rest of the route is flat or mildly undulating.

Wind is the only factor that could disrupt a bunch sprint. As the peloton passes through the exposed Ebro Delta in the finale, crosswinds could come into play.

The first three riders to cross the finish line bag time bonuses of 10, 6, and 4 bonus seconds, while the intermediate sprints offer 3, 2, and 1 seconds.
