Volta a Catalunya 2025 Route stage 4: Sant Vicenç de Castellet – Montserrat

Volta a Catalunya 2025 Thursday, 27 March – Featuring nearly 3,100 metres of elevation gain, the 4th stage of the Volta a Catalunya is a 188.7-kilometre race from Sant Vicenç de Castellet to Montserrat. The final 8.8 kilometres ascend at an average gradient of 6.6%.

Sant Vicenç de Castellet and pro cycling races—once an unlikely combination, but that's about to change, as the town will host La Volta a Catalunya for the next three years. The first of these three goes to Montserrat, home to a monastery established there a millennium ago. Back in 1995, Laurent Jalabert was the last La Volta stage winner on the iconic Montserrat mountain.

The route is undulating from the outset, beginning with a 2.6-kilometre ascent at an average gradient of 5.1%. After descending into Manresa, the road ascends again over 9.8 kilometres at 3%. While these early sections aren't classified, they present opportunities for riders aiming to join the day's breakaway.

Approximately 125 kilometres into the race, the peloton takes on the first classified climb, Turó del Puig, 5.1 kilometres long and averaging gradient of 5.4%. After descending, there's another uncategorized ascent, the Alt de Malans, measuring 6.2 kilometres at 3.8%.

From the Alt de Malans, 35 kilometres remain to the base of the final ascent. This section goes entirely downhill, except for a 2.1-kilometre section at 6.5%. The concluding climb to Montserrat then throws in 8.8 kilometres at an average gradient of 6.6%.

The first three riders to cross the finish line bag time bonuses of 10, 6, and 4 bonus seconds, while the intermediate sprints offer 3, 2, and 1 seconds.
