Race report
Danny van der Tuuk and Jan Castellon are the first attackers. José Luis Faura and Nicolás Alustiza join them and the four open up a 4-minute gap.

Faura and Van der Tuuk are caught just before the riders cross the line or the first time, the other two a little later.

​Enric Mas wins the intermediate sprint in Llagostera, securing 3 bonus seconds; Primož Roglič crosses the line in third place, picking up 1 second.

Meanwhile, it continues to rain heavily, as the peloton cruises more or less bunched towards the finish line. Some fifty riders remain in the last 10 kilometres.

​In a descent towards the finishing venue, Tibor Del Grosso descends so effectively that he creates a gap. He presses on, starting the steep final 500 metres with a 100-metre lead. Matthew Brennan sets off in pursuit, with only Kaden Groves, Del Grosso’s teammate, able to keep his wheel.​

Del Grosso begins to tire in the last 50 metres, allowing the 19-year-old Brit to close the gap in the final 5 metres. Groves lacks the power to overtake, and Brennan both clinches the stage win and grabs the leader’s jersey.
