The 1st stage is a 150.7-kilometre race featuring 2,386 metres of climbing. Three KOM climbs line the route, the last of which appears 30 kilometres before the finish line in Gumeracha.
The Barossa Valley hosts the 2nd stage on the Tour Down Under. At 128.8 kilometres and featuring 1,598 metres of climbing, the race is likely to see a sprint finish in Tanunda. Last year, Sam Welsford powered to victory after a similar stage.
The 3rd stage serves up 3,236 metres of climbing over an 147.5 kilometres route between Norwood and Uraidla. Knotts Hill marks the finale with its 2.6-kilometre at 8%. The route continues to rise false flat for 2 kilometres before the riders fly down a 3.4 kilometres run-in to the finish line.
The 4th stage is the longest of the entire on the Tour Down Under. At 157.3 kilometres, the route serves up an elevation gain of 2,443 metres between Glenelg and Victor Harbor. The punchy Nettle Hill opens the finale with 20 kilometres remaining.
The 5th stage is expected to be decisive in terms of the GC. The 145.7-kilometre race includes an elevation gain of 2,038 meters, while the finale is played out on Willunga Hill. It’s the only uphill finish of the Tour Down Under after a 3-kilometre climb at 7.4%.
The town of Adelaide hosts the 6th stage. It’s a criterium race of 90 kilometres with a total elevation gain of 768 metres. So, it’s a safe bet to expect a bunch sprint on the last day of the Tour Down Under.
