Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes 2026 Route stage 5: Saint-Chamond - Villars-les-Dombes
First published 6 June 2026
Right from the start, the Côte de la Croix-Blanche, a climb of 3 kilometres at 5%, provides an ideal launch pad for the more climbing-oriented breakaway riders. Shortly afterwards, the Col de la Gachet adds a further 1.6 kilometres at 4.4%, but that is already the end of the classified climbs.
That is not to say the route becomes completely flat straight away. In fact, after the KOM sprint on the Col de la Gachet, the road continues uphill for several more kilometres. The subsequent descent gives way to an uphill drag of 8.1 kilometres at 3.4%. After passing through Aveize, the riders descend once more before tackling another rise, this time climbing for 5 kilometres at 4.6% towards Saint-Laurent-de-Chamousset.
Following a rolling section and a long descent, the riders reach the foot of the climb to Oingt - 5.3 kilometres at 5.1% - before the road kicks up again just ahead of the intermediate sprint in Blacé: 1.3 kilometres at 4.2%.
After that, with still well over 80 kilometres to go, the climbing is done and dusted. The riders head towards Villars-les-Dombes on flat to gently rolling roads, with the finish line situated at the Parc des Oiseaux.
The first three riders across the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while 3, 2 and 1 seconds are available at the intermediate sprint.
