Race report
After about 15 kilometres of action, Gianni Vermeersch attacks. Magnus Cort, Andrea Vendrame, Samuele Battistella, Jasper Stuyven, and Andrea Pietrobon join him straight away, while Chris Hamilton and Benjamin Thomas chase them down. The eight put almost 5 minutes into the peloton.

The lead group tackles the climb to the line 1.30 minutes ahead of the peloto.

Vendrame heads out alone in the last 5 kilometers, while leader Filippo Ganna loses contact with the peloton. Then, Juan Ayuso speeds up. With Tom Pidcock, Jai Hindley, and Mikel Landa on his wheel, the Spaniard continues setting the pace until he is alone at the front of the race.

Ayuso consolidates his lead in the final 3 kilometres, not only taking the stage win but also to the leader's jersey. Antonio Tiberi finishes fifth and moves up to second place, 1 second ahead of Ganna and 5 seconds ahead of Derek Gee.
