Tirreno-Adriatico 2025 Route stage 3: Follonica - Colfiorito
Wednesday, 12 March – The 3rd stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico takes in over 3,200 metres of elevation across a 239-kilometre route. The finish line comes 4 kilometres after an 18.4-kilometre climb with an average gradient of 3%.
The final climb, the Valico di Colfiorito, doesn’t seem intimidating at first glance – and it isn’t, for the most part – but in the run-up, the riders face a 1.6-kilometre ramp at 9%. After that, the gradient flattens significantly before picking up again to around 5% with 7 kilometres to go. In the last 2 kilometres, the Valico di Colfiorito levels off to a false flat once more.
But, let’s start with the beginnining of the race. After almost 30 kilometres on fat terrain, the riders climb to the hilltop village of Roccastrada – a 5.7-kilometre ascent at 4.8%. There are no mountain points available yet, but they can be earned on the Passo del Lume Spento, a 12.5-kilometre climb averaging 4.2%, with the summit at kilometre 75.6.
Right after the descent, the riders tackle the 3-kilometre climb at 5% to San Quirico d’Orcia, and 15 kilometres later, it’s time for the ascent to La Foce: 5.3 kilometres at 4.6%. At the summit, the bulk of the climbing is done, while the riders are roughly halfway through the stage.
The course continues on slightly undulating terrain towards Foligno, and then the Colle di San Lorenzo kicks in. This the 1.6-kilometre climb at 9% mentioned earlier. The steep ramp marks the start of the Valico di Colfiorit. The riders reach the summit with a 4-kilometre run-in to the line ahead of them.
The first three riders across the line gain 10, 6, and 4 bonus seconds, while 3, 2, and 1 seconds are available in the intermediate sprint.
