The route includes a small climb of 900 metres at 4.7% with 3 kilometres remaining. And that’s it in terms of inclines, as the rest of the course is flat. The only time check is situated in Fantasina, the turnaround point of the route after 6.8 kilometres in the saddle.
For years, the Women’s Giro started with a team time trial until the organisation broke with that tradition in 2022. On that occasion, Kristen Faulkner won the ITT on the first day of action. Another break with tradition happened last year, as the Giro opened with a mountain stage, as the Giro openend with a mountain stage. The now-retired Annemiek van Vleuten immediately took the leader’s jersey and didn’t relinquish it for the rest of the race. It was her fourth overall victory in the Women’s Giro.
