World Cycling Championships 2023 Glasgow

Mathieu van der Poel and Lotte Kopecky won the rainbow jersey at the road race events of the 2023 World Championships in Scotland. Remco Evenepoel and Chloé Dygert stormed to ITT gold and Switzerland won the mixed relay. It was the first time that Scotland hosted the World Cycling Championships.

Kopecky solos to gold medal

Lotte Kopecky drops Cecilie Uttrup-Ludwig in the last lap of Glasgow's city circuit to solo to the World Title. Demi Vollering overhauls the Danish rider just before the line and takes silver, while Ludwig finishes in third.

Sunday 13 August - The road race at the Worlds sets off from Edinburgh and reaches its zenit on a city circuit in Glasgow. The circuit is crammed with punchy short climbs and features 193 metres of climbing per lap. The race totals 154.1 kilometres, while the elevation gain adds up to 2,229 metres.

Van der Poel flies into the rainbow stripes

Mathieu van der Poel solos to victory in the road race of the Worlds in Glasgow. The Dutch star leaves his fellow-attackers Wout van Aert, Tadej Pogacar and Mads Pedersen behind with 23 kilometres to go. He gobbles op soloist Alberto Bettiol and powers to the rainbow stripes.
