Race report

King of the Mountains Baptiste Veistroffer attacks shortly after the start. Mats Wenzel and Tyler Stites are the first to join him, before Samuel Flórez, Junior Lecerf, Tobias Svarre, Felix Engelhardt, David González and Samuel Fernández make it nine. The escapees open up a 1-minute gap on the peloton before being caught on the first climb, the Port Colldarnat.

Then Marc Soler, Giulio Ciccone, Junior Lecerf, Davide Piganzoli and Einer Rubio are among a flock of attackers breaking clear. While most of them drop back into the peloton, those five press on. They crest the Port Colldarnat over 1 minute ahead of the peloton.

On the Coll de Josa, the five double their lead. That gap remains at the foot of the third climb, the Coll de Fumanya, while Lecerf loses contact on the slopes.

The lead of the break drops toward 1 minute on the Collada Sobirana. The pace is too high for Rubio and he drops back.

A crash on the Sobirana descent puts several GC riders behind, but they rejoin before the Coll de Pal. Barely into the final climb, Ciccone drops his companions.

Halfway up the final climb, the Italian still has roughly a 1-minute lead over the GC contenders. Then Felix Gall, Florian Lipowitz and Lenny Martinez start the chase. Later, Jonas Vingegaard and Valentin Paret-Peintre also join in, and they catch up with Ciccone.

With 6 kilometres to the summit, Vingegaard goes on alone, steadily pulling away from the rest of the field. He wins on the Coll de Pal with a lead of more than 1 minute over the first chaser, Felix Gall.

With his victory, the Dane takes the lead in the general classification. Gall is second, Martinez third.
