Race report
It’s a fierce battle for a place in the breakaway, but eventually Joshua Tarling, Stefan Bissegger, Peter Øxenberg, Axel Huens, Johan Jacobs, Mark Stewart, Mattia Gaffuri, Owain Doull and Alessandro Romele manage to get clear. The latter two sit up to wait for the peloton, while the lead of the other seven never grows beyond 2 minutes.
Once on Jebel Hafeet, teammates Tarling and Øxenberg head out together.
Felix Gall takes over the initiative inside the final 6 kilometres, with Harold Tejada following him. They two ride ten seconds clear of the favourites’ group, but in the final 4 kilometres, they see Isaac del Toro and Antonio Tiberi surge past them.
Del Toro puts the race leader under pressure, but Tiberi holds firm. When Luke Plapp bridges across, the Mexican rider attacks again with just under 3 kilometres to go. This time it pays off, and he goes clear on his own.
Tiberi digs deep but without success. Del Toro steadily pulls away, and Tiberi eventually has to let Plapp and Gall go past him as well.
Meanwhile, the Mexican champion has already crossed the line in jubilation, succeeding his teammate Tadej Pogacar as the winner of the UAE Tour.
