Tour of the Alps 2024: Solo victory De Marchi, Foss still leader

Raceverslag
It takes roughly 35 kilometres for the breakaway to take shape. Then Alessandro De Marchi, Simon Pellaud, Lukas Pöstlberger and Yuma Koishi join forces. Patrick Gamper and Atusuhi Oka make it six at the helm and they race to a lead of of 4.20 minutes on the Brenner Pass. Oka loses contact in the climb.
Koishi is the second rider to de dropped, while Pöstlberger can’t follow the pace inside the last 40 kilometres.
Gamper goes solo with 33 kilometres remaining. At first, the peloton opens the chase, but then they slow down.
De Marchi and Pellaud regain contact with Gamper on the Gnadenwald climb, and leave him behind. De Marchi heads out alone in the last 3 kilometres of the ascent and he reaches the summit 30 seconds ahead of Pellaud.
He extends his lead on the flat to win the 2nd stage solo, while Tobias Foss keeps the leader’s jersey.
