Tour of the Alps 2024 Route stage 3: Schwaz - Schwaz
Wednesday 17 April - The 3rd stage of the Tour of the Alps is 127 kilometres long and includes an elevation gain of 2,360 metres. The race both starts and finishes in Schwaz, while the last 38 kilometres are similar to an Ardennes’ Classic with a series of brutal ramps at double digits.
Schwaz is situated in the heart of the lower Inn valley. The first part of the route winds its way to and fro the valley floor before the profile changes dramatically after 90 kilometres of action. In short succession the riders face two short and sharp ramps, the Weerberg and Pillberg.
The Weerberg is 3.2 kilometres long and averages 9.9% and right after the descent the Pillberg adds 3.2 kilometres at 10.3% to the mix. The Weerberg is even steeper in the second part than that static suggest, while the reverse is true for the Pillberg.
The riders descend into the Inn valley and after 6 kilometres on the flat the brutal combo is tackled again.
The second climb up the Pillberg is done and dusted with 5 kilometres to go and following the final downhill, there’s only 1 kilometre remaining. The home straight runs slightly uphill.
The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while the intermediate sprints come with 3, 2 and 1 seconds.
