Tour de France 2025 Route stage 8: Saint-Méen-le-Grand - Laval

Tour de France 2025Saturday, 12 July – The 8th stage of the Tour de France takes the riders from Saint-Méen-le-Grand to Laval. The 174.1-kilometre route is virtually flat.

There is only one token climb en route, yet the total elevation gain still hovers around 1,700 metres. So, it’s not really flat, but for a pro-rider, it is. In other words, a bunch sprint is to be expected in the streets of Laval.

Laval is the birthplace of three-time Tour de France stage winner Jacky Durand. It has been four years since La Grande Boucle last visited the town. Back then, Tadej Pogacar powered to victory in an individual time trial, while yellow jersey holder Mathieu van der Poel really stepped up to maintain his lead in the overall standings.

Starting venue Saint-Méen-le-Grand has seen the Tour only once before. The Breton town first welcomed the race back in 2006, also with a stage start. The race headed to Lourent, where the Frenchman Sylvain Calzati savoured his finest hour, scoring the only major win of his career.

The first three riders across the line gain 10, 6 and 4 bonus seconds.
