Race report
Four riders attack from the gun. The Bais brothers, KOM leader Stefano Gandin and Alessandro Iacchi put almost 7 minutes into the peloton.
The Bais brothers are eyeing up the KOM jersey and they drop their companions on the Passo del Lume Spento. Davide is the first rider to reach the summit and he also pockets most KOM points in La Foce. Mission accomplished, Davide Bais is the new King of the Mountains.
The brothers are reeled in after the intermediate sprint in Moiano.
The peloton splits in the open plains with 12 kilometres to go, but it comes back together before Mathieu van der Poel uses the technical finish to showcase a perfect lead-out. Philipsen is glued to his wheel and powers to the win on the home straight, while Bauhaus finishes in second and Girmay in third.
The GC remains unchanged, so Ganna keeps the leader’s jersey.
