Race report
Five riders attacks from the gun. Davide Bais, Mirco Maestri, Stefano Gandin, Alessandro Iacchi and Roland Thalmann carve out a maximum lead of 4.30 minutes.
Bais stops his efforts after the sprint for KOM points, which Gandin wins. The KOM leader himself waits for the peloton when the gap has fallen below 1 minute, while the remaining three are reeled in with 19 kilometres to go.
Gaviria opens the sprint early with a powerful jump. He opens a gap and functions as a target at the same time. Philipsen targets him to catch him in the dying metres of the race before Jakobsen comes across to take the win.
Ganna finishes safely in the bunch to hold the leader's jersey for at least one more day.
